Lily Vanilli is working with the Mayor’s Fund for London to crowd fund for and distribute birthday cakes to young people who might not otherwise receive one due to the impact of the deepening cost of living crisis on household budgets.

Through the 15th Birthday Project customers can donate either the cost of a cake from a specially designed range or make a contribution towards a cake and delivery. Cakes will be distributed during the school holidays to the MFL’s Kitchen Social pan-London hubs network so that young people can enjoy them together whilst benefiting from holiday provision in their local community organisations.

Lily is renowned for her pioneering cake designs, quality baking and market leading innovation. She is a Mayor’s Fund for London ambassador and an advocate of the Kitchen Social network,  London’s largest provider of holiday food and activities for children and young people.

Speaking on the launch of the 15th Birthday Project Lily said; “We’re celebrating fifteen years of the bakery this year and felt there’s no better way to mark the occasion than to celebrate the importance of birthday cakes for everyone, and the ethos of sharing that they represent. I’ve worked with the Mayor’s Fund for London for a while now and am so passionate about the work they’re doing to help children around London; I’m thrilled to be able to play a part in the cause. There’s something so unique and important about having a cake baked especially for you, to share with loved ones, I think everyone should have the chance to experience it, and in the current climate it’s important to remember and celebrate that.”

Jade Harris, Head of Food and Communities at MFL said “The Mayor’s Fund for London has a long-standing partnership with the Lily Vanilli Bakery which we are expanding into birthday cakes as a direct result of this cost of living crisis. 700,000 young Londoners are currently experiencing food insecurity in the capital and demand for our food programmes has never been higher which we tackle through our healthy recipe kits (Take & Make and Create & Make). Despite this provision, many young Londoners won’t receive a birthday cake this year as it is an unaffordable luxury for their families. This partnership builds on our Kitchen Social offer, providing all young Londoners with access to safe spaces, food and fun activities over the school holidays when food insecurity is at it’s worst. Thanks to Lily, young people will be able to celebrate their birthdays, as every young person should, with their friends and families, enjoying the finest cake in London!”

Recipients will select the design they like from the range, then customise the flavour: from vanilla to chocolate to rose, coconut, lemon, raspberry, and salted caramel, and can choose and also add a piped message and their chosen colour scheme. Donors (or the people they gift on behalf of) will receive a fabulous digital thank you via email.
