Flipping for Kitchen Social on Pancake Day

28th February 2017

Shrove Tuesday brings together new supporters for Kitchen Social with Borough Market, Better Bankside, Midnight Runners and Northern Trust backing our campaign to tackle holiday hunger and social isolation.

With frying pans at the ready, an intrepid Kitchen Social Running Team ventured out of City Hall to take part in Bankside’s Pancake Day Race in Borough Market. Joining local businesses in a fast and furious 100m pancake flippLittle Girl in Big Ting relay, the event was watched by hundreds of market-goers who packed out the market to cheer us all on.

25 teams took part in heats and the qualifying teams raced against each other in the big finale. Our competitive spirit soared as we made it through the heats but were pipped at the post by winning team – The Marketing Store.

In other parts of London, during the February half term holidays, children at Bede House Kitchen Social Hub in Southwark flipped pancakes with the Midnight Runners to raise awareness and get active, while Northern Trust served pancakes for breakfast and lunch in their staff restaurant with £1 donated for every pancake sold. Their support will continue, with Northern Trust employees ‘giving up to give back’ by donating 50p for every day they give up something for Lent.
