Children who go hungry during the holidays return to school at a disadvantage. In 2014, we successfully piloted a new approach with Kellogg’s, working with five community Holiday Clubs to provide food outside of term time. Children from Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Newham enjoyed healthy breakfasts across the summer holiday. All five clubs reported an improvement in attendance after the introduction of breakfasts. Moving into its second year we give breakfast to hungry children in 10 holiday clubs in 2016.
