The Mayor’s Fund For London aims to improve the life chances and aspirations of disadvantaged children, young people and their families in London.

Our Objectives

Our objectives are to deliver four things for children and young people in London through our Programme:
  • A Better Start in Life
  • A Better Educational Experience
  • Better Things To Do
  • A Better Job

We will not deliver services ourselves. We are taking a strategic approach to tackling child poverty by working closely with our partners to identify projects that best meet the needs of each local area as well as the aims and principles of the Mayor’s Fund.

Our Principles

Underpinning our approach are four key principles:

Partnership

Our whole approach is based on partnership from design and funding to delivery. We will create partnerships with communities, local authorities, other funders and delivery partners that build on existing provision, fill gaps and meet clear outcome targets.

Connectivity

We know that poverty is directly connected with issues of health, particularly mental health, education and educational attainment, aspiration, housing, employment and employability, and crime, and risk of crime. However the services and funding to support the lives of children and families affected by poverty are not connected. The Mayor’s Fund aims to provide a better customer experience for the child and family in poverty by assisting them in navigating their way through the various support services they need. In practice this means linking up projects by sharing information on children and families, sharing training and learning, agreeing common monitoring and liaising over service delivery at family level.

Evidence-Based

The Mayor’s Fund is interested in well-tested and effective interventions and invariably our Programme will be based on data not opinion.  This means we will embed good evidence-based practice in our own work and in the Programme and, crucially, in the component projects in that Programme.

Implementation
We will encourage good practice and high quality delivery processes by ensuring that good ideas are followed through to excellent delivery.
